Chapleau Learning Centre is a school board based adult literacy centre
sponsored by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. We deliver Literacy &
Basic Skills (LBS) Levels 1 - 5, Computer Literacy, and the Academic & Career Entrance
Program (grade twelve equivalency), working with adult learners who are interested in improving
their computer, mathematics, English, and life skills in a highly supportive environment. We
also assist with preparation for ILC (Independent Learning Centre) and GED (General Education
Development). We conduct an in-depth, goal-directed literacy assessment for each client who
enters our program.
Programs offered include small group learning, one-to-one tutoring and individual self-directed
programs with instructor assistance in small and large classroom settings. Training goals for
learners include: personal independence, upgrading to a grade 12 equivalency in mathematics,
English and science, skills and trades upgrading, and career counselling, post-secondary
education, employment and enhanced employment.
Learners may attend on a full or part time basis and scheduling is geared to the individual.
Academic and career counselling for further training/education and setting short and long term
goals is available. Individuals may start anytime during the academic year because their
programs are individualized and self-paced.
Chapleau Learning Centre's enrolment has increased each year having served 65+ learners last
fiscal. Our staff, Janet Hazen, Instructor/Manager, Marilyne Doyle, Instructor, Carla Guthrie,
Instructor and Janice Tremblay, Instuctor, are dedicated professionals, committed to lifelong
learning in our community.
