CP Rail (CPR) has a large presence in Chapleau, providing service linking the community to the USA and Southern Ontario through Sudbury. The Northern Ontario Backwoods Budd Car departs Chapleau for Sudbury on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The passenger service departs for White River on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

In 2001, the Federal Government announced an initiative to upgrade the VIA Rail Budd Car equipment that operates on this line  a move which improves safety and reliability of the service.
