Chapleau is a vibrant community of approximately 3000 people with plenty to offer our visitors in all seasons. We are well positioned as a four season destination and known as the Gateway to the Largest Crown Game Preserve in the World. Situated in the Northeastern Ontario Boreal Forest, we are very proud of our community and consider it to be an exciting destination for world travel.

Chapleau has been known as the Friendliest Town in the North and we would welcome you to come and experience this first hand.

Whether you are coming from the United States or Southern Ontario please see the directions to the right. We hope to see you soon!

Chapleau Transportation

CP Rail has a large presence in Chapleau, providing service linking the community to the USA and Southern Ontario through Sudbury. Changes in the way that rail transportation is managed has resulted in an increase in the number of cars being pulled by a single locomotive and this has impacted the operations in Chapleau.

Chapleau also has an airport, which operated as a commercial entity until recently but continues to host private flights. Trucking is a large component of the Chapleau economy. The trucking industry is well entrenched and experienced in moving wood resources around the North.
